Paul Jaboulet “Parallele 45” Cotes Du Rhone Rose
Nothing in the wine world says summer quite like a dry French Rose. Very much like the season it is marketed around, I eagerly await rose’s arrival every year like a schoolboy does the month of June. Its coming marks the end of the cold, steel gray Nuclear winter depression-fest which is our reality here in the north east. It signals the triumphant return of life to the city, marked by warm temperatures, giddy jaunts to the beach and a splash of color to the landscape.
While most wine connoisseurs cite Provence as the best region for rose, there are gems to be found almost everywhere in France. (and for a lot less money) Case in point? The aforementioned P45 Rose.
With floral and crushed red cherry aromas, the wine shows slightly more body than its Provencal cousins. It shows ripe, mineral-driven fruit on the palate, and tangy undertones, with a fresh crisp acidic flourish. It’s versatile enough to pair with oysters or a roast chicken dinner.
And for around $13 a bottle it is a magnificent way to (belatedly) celebrate Bastille Day (Which is my favorite summer holiday, and sort of the signature holiday for Wineforthe99.com) and have a few Francs left over for a nice plate of Moule-Frites.
I was working this July 15th and unable to celebrate it properly, so I got to thinking, while sipping on some P45… Why not throw a belated Bastille Day tasting here in my garden for all our friends, and give them a proper wine tour of my favorite French value wines?
So on Saturday August 3rd for a mere $25 bucks (if you buy an advanced ticket or $35 the day of the event) you will be treated to 5 superb wines, gourmet, yummy paired bites and a toast to the revolution for the 99% right here in Washington Heights!
